Samson

Biblical strongman who was good at murdering people.

His hair was considered the source of his power and strength.  After losing his hair he was blinded, or put in darkness, just like a Sun that provides no Rays of Light provides darkness.

The name Samson seems to mean Sun or If the Sun.  Something to with the Sun.

The hairs of the Sun God are usually shown as Sun Rays. 

Without the rays of the sun providing warmth and power the Sun, like Samson, would be powerless and cause darkness.
