Pope Leo X

Pope Leo X is said to have called King Henry VIII the 'defender of the faith' and is also on record as saying "It has served us well, this myth of Christ". See "The Hiram Key" page 60-61 for more information.  I have no idea if this is true or not, however it would not surprise me to discover that an Expansionist Religion would use this tactic to cause the 'faithful' to contribute their hard-earned cash to enable the so-called Religious Leaders to live an easy life.

I have also seen this quoted as "What profit has not that fable of Christ brought us?" in other sources.

He is quoted as saying sometime during the 16th century:

"It has served us well, this myth of Christ"

(See "The Last Templar" by Khoury on page before prologue)
