Pirates 

A book called "The Templar Pirates" links the Knights Templar to the pirates.

This seems to have happened after the Knights Templar were destroyed by Pope Clement V and King Philip IV of France.

Pirate crews often consisted of small-time adventurers, ex combatants, mutinous sailors, deserters, fugitives from the law, and escaped slaves. (See "The Templar Pirates" page 7)

Redbeard was a Pirate.
