Offerings to God
The American Indians offered tobacco and other tokens of respect to the Great Spirit, which seems to be a term they used for the Supreme Being who was the Creator. This caused the Christians to consider the American Indians to be heathens. However when the Christians offered bread, wine, incense and burnt dead critters to God they considered it to be a sign of Christian civilization. Not much difference as far as I can see, except that the Christians seemed to enjoy killing animal life that God created more than plant life that was also a gift from God. Seems rather wasteful to murder one of God's critters when God can take said critter anytime God wishes to so do. By the time the Christians were murdering the American Indians the Christians had developed a real fondness for tobacco and probably considered it a waste to burn up tobacco that they really enjoyed smoking or chewing.
Offerings to God now seem to mean giving money, or other valuables, to whatever Church you belong. Does God get this money and if God does get it, what does God do with it? A lot of money is donated to God by Christians and other religions.
Whatever company God spends this money with would be a good company to invest in. Of course now money is simply created out of nothing by writing a number on some piece of paper.
How could God spend the money donated to Him? Perhaps He pays cash since God could not get a checking account or a a Credit Card without a Social Security Number which can only be acquired by producing or at least having a Birth Certificate. Also most credit card companies would not issue a credit card to an entity with an address of Heaven.
What does God do with the money that is donated to Him? Does He buy political favors? Does He spend it on more Churches? Does He use it in wars to kill those who call Him by another name? Or, since the money people give to God is usually given to an organized religion that acts as a middleman, the middleman may simply use most, if not all, of that money for the benefit of itself. Most likely!
Could it be that donating money to the Church is something that was designed by the priests who wanted more money so they did not have to have the same hard working life that the peasants have. All they needed to do was convince the peasants that if they did not give money to the Church they would burn in Hell for eternity. It this is what has happened, it has worked quite well. Just look at the TV evangelists and guys like Jesse Jackson or Billy Graham.
The Biblical justification for giving money to God seems to have come from "Give unto Caesar that which is Caesar's and give unto God that which is God's." I do not see the term money in that phrase anywhere. Never have seen it and never will see it there.
If you wish to make a lot of money to spend on yourself all you really have to do is create a religion that will cause many people will give their hard-earned cash to you in the name of God. You will acquire more money if you can convince others that they will go to 'Hell' if they do not give you money. Then you will be able to live lavishly in a huge home, fly in a private airplane, and drive a very expensive car. Did you ever see a Priest driving a crappy beat-up car?
