Notice

Notice is the term used by Masons for the monthly newsletter that is sent to all members of a Lodge to inform them of the upcoming meeting.

It is a requirement of the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania that all members be sent a monthly notice.

The monthly notice is prepared each month by the Secretary of the Lodge and is usually sent via the USPS as bulk mail.

The preparation and mailing of the notice takes up at least several hours of the Secretary's time each month.  It is this Secretary's opinion that many of the notices are probably never even looked at.  Those who are good active Masons will be at the meetings even if they do not get a notice and those who are not active will probably not come to a meeting even if they get a notice twice each day.  Of course there are some Masons who live many states away from their Lodge so attendance is difficult.  Also some Masons have to work on meeting nights so they cannot attend.  Work and the support of the family should come before Masonic obligations.

In addition to the monthly notice, I have been sending an email to all members of out Lodge that I have a email address for, informing them of upcoming events of the Lodge. I have been told by several Masons who get my emails that they like getting the information via email and that I should quit sending notices and just use email.

I also send the notice to other Masons in other Lodges who have requested a copy and to the Secretaries and Masters of other Lodges in the 26th and 53rd Masonic Districts.  Two copies of the notice are sent to the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania.

The notice is usually sent about a week before the Stated Meeting.
