Moon Lodges

Moon Lodges are those Lodges that hold their Stated Meeting on a day that is determined by the phase of the Moon.

A Lodge that holds its Stated Meeting on the Wednesday on or before the Full Moon would qualify as a Moon Lodge.

Moon Lodges are probably a holdover from the time before our roads were lit at night and before we had developed the ability to light up the road with our modes of transportation.  It was much safer and easier to travel under the light of a Full Moon than it was to travel on the night of a New Moon.

One of our Lodges in the 26th Masonic District of Pennsylvania, Meridian Lodge No. 411, is a Moon Lodge.
