Moon

The Moon is the name used for the heavenly body that rotates around the Earth.
While the Sun seems to rise to open and rule the day, the Moon seems to continue on to govern the night.
The Moon seems to be quite old. I seem to recall reading something about some old civilizations that had an oral history of the time before the Moon appeared. I cannot remember where I read this or even if it was published as fiction or as non-fiction. I seem to recall that it had something to do with some early people in the area we now call South America, but I am not sure. I also recall it mentioned something about the length of the year being only 360 days until after the Moon appeared. Perhaps I will someday remember where I read this information. Until then this is all I can remember about the topic. Perhaps it was a dream, but this is unlikely as I seldom remember anything about dreams.
Mankind is said to have visited the Moon during 1969 and during the early 1970s. Perhaps we did.
It seems odd that if we visited the Moon, why is it that we have not continued to visit the Moon? Did we find something there that scared us away? Perhaps the inhabitants of the Moon told us "Yankee Go Home." Most countries on Earth have told Yankees to go home so why not the Moon?
I have read somewhere that a Lodge was established on the Moon by one of our astronauts.
It is speculated that the Moon may be an artificial, not natural, satellite. While this sounds odd, who knows? See the book "Who Built the Moon" for a lot more interesting information. Very interesting book.
Some Lodges hold their Stated Meeting on a Day determined by the phases of the Moon. Those Lodges are often called Moon Lodges.
The Moon is one of the Three Lesser Lights of Freemasonry.
The Moon is considered to be the most important heavenly body for Witches. Werewolves were said to take their wolf form when the Moon appeared as a full moon. See "The Wicca Handbook" page 192.
A Waxing Moon is when the Moon appears to be getting fuller.

The 2012 Astrotheology Calendar
As is the case with the solar orb, there exist many myths about the moon from numerous cultures throughout history. Therefore, we have selected just a few prominent examples that clearly reveal astrotheological aspects. For instance, in the myth of the Egyptian god Osiris, who in addition to embodying the life force and water also was both solar and lunar, the deity "lives" to the age of 28, after which he is torn into 14 pieces by his enemy Set/Seth, symbolizing in this case the serpent of the night sky. The "age" of 28 or so represents the lunar month, while the 14 pieces, of course, reflect the days of the month when the moon wanes.
Lunar mythology may likewise be revealed in stories involving the number 30, as in the "age" supposedly attained by Jesus before his death, but in reality denoting the days in a lunar month according to some ancient calendars. The number seven also rates as important in lunar myths, as it signifies the days of the week of a 28-day lunar month perfectly divided into four.
One of the earliest artifacts we possess is the 21,000-year-old "Venus of Laussel," a figurine of a voluptuous female or "goddess" holding a horn with 13 marks, undoubtedly denoting both the lunar months of the year and the yearly menstrual cycle.
The gravitational pull of the moon may likewise be present in lunar mythology, such as, perhaps, the biblical myth in which the solar hero Samson's hair is cut by the lunar goddess Delilah. This biblical tale possesses the knowledge also found in another widespread myth depicting the lunar goddess giving birth to the sun: To wit, the moon reflects the sun's light. This same motif may be the basis for the Greek myth of the lunar god Hermes stealing the sun god Apollo's "cattle," representing the sun rays driven ahead of the solar orb.
Following are a few of the world's lunar deities: al-Lat, al-Uzza, Alignak, Allah, Arebati, Artemis, Avatea, Cerridwen, Coyolxauhqui, Diana, Hecate, Heng-O, Hermes, Hubul, Ix Chel, Khons/Khonsu, Mawu, Mayari, Nanna, Pah, Selene or Luna, Sin/Nanna, Soma, Thoth, Tsuki-Yomi, Yarikh.
