Luciferan Masonry

Leo Taxil, pseudonym for Gabriel Jogand-Pages, made up this imaginary group to help sell his books and to embarrass the Catholic Church whose leaders seemed to follow Leo Taxil's Anti-Masonic writings as gospel.  His books were mostly sold in Europe.

Luciferan Masonry, according to Leo Taxil was centered in Charleston, South Carolina.  He picked this city because it was where Albert Pike lived.

Leo Taxil created a contrived High Priestess of this imaginary Luciferan Masonry that he referred to as Diana Vaughn. Note the use of the name DianaLeo Taxil was no dummy.

The Vatican even convened a special meeting in September of 1896 at Trent to make everyone aware of the evils of Freemasonry.  It is said that a thousand delegates showed up to expand the Catholic Church's hatred of FreemasonryLeo Taxil was the hero of this Catholic Church event but some were upset that Diana Vaughn was not present, which is not surprising since she was a fictional character to begin with.

Leo Taxil said that Diana Vaughn would appear at the Geographical Society of Paris on Easter Monday on 19 April 1897.  On this date Leo Taxil admitted that all his stories about the negative activities of the Masons was made up by him for the sole purpose of playing on the credulity of the Catholic Church to make the Catholic Church leaders look ridiculous.  Pope Leo XIII had been told by the Bishop of Charleston and by the Apostolic Vicar of Gibraltar that Leo Taxil's stories were not true but the Pope kept silent and allowed the Catholic Church to continue to degrade Freemasonry.  I guess this was OK since the Pope is always right due to the Infallibility of the Pope.  This caused Leo Taxil to have to hide from the Catholic Church.  He had to get police protection to save his hide.  Probably the Pope wanted to Burn him at the Stake as they had previously done to many others that the Catholic Church did not approve of.
