Lodge

The term "Lodge" has at least two meanings.  The term is not purely Masonic.  Other organizations may also use the term to refer to their group or meeting location.

The Freemasons who meet at a specific location are known as a Lodge of Freemasons.

The building in which they meet is also called a Lodge.

Thus the members of the Lodge meet in the Lodge.

Lodges of Freemasons used to meet in taverns before they built their own Lodges.  Most Lodges now have their own Lodge in which to meet.

According to Anderson's "Constitutions", "A Lodge is a place where Masons assemble and work; hence that Assembly, or duly organiz'd Society... call'd a Lodge, and every Brother ought to belong to one..."(See Who's Afraid of Freemasons?" by Piatigorsky page39)

Some Lodges have no fixed position.  Military Lodges travel with their Military unit.

The original Grand Lodge of England met at the Apple Tree Tavern.
