King Arthur

According to legend King Arthur was the illegitimate son of Igerne, who was the wife of the Duke of Cornwell, who was raped by Uther Pendragon while under the enchantment of of a magician called Merlin.
King Arthur proved his right to kingship by pulling Excalibur out of a stone.
King Arthur is usually associated with the Knights of the Round Table.
When King Arthur became king King Arthur is said to have married Guinevere and to have started the Round Table.
King Arthur is said to have fathered his own illegitimate son called Mordred while magically enhanced ad seduced by his half-sister Morwenna. Mordred is said to have later challenged King Arthur for the throne.
It is said that King Arthur needed the Holy Grail to save his kingdom so he sent all of his knights to find it. It is said to have been found by Sir Lancelot thus saving King Arthur and his land. King Arthur then fought a battle in which his son Mordred and Sir Lancelot were both killed and King Arthur was mortally wounded. King Arthur is said to have not died but went to Avalon to be healed and then returned to save his country.
His sword, Excalibur, was thrown into a lake where it was caught by the Lady of the Lake who took it into her care for future use.
A King Arthur like person seems to have been mentioned by a fifth century monk called Gildas. It refers to a Battle at at a place called Mons Badonicus in 500 AD.
