"It has served us well, this myth of Christ"
Said to have been a quote (Translated) by Pope Leo X.
This, if true, could indicate that even some of the leaders of the Christian Religion do not even believe that Jesus Christ was, or is, God, or the Son of God. Who knows? Could the story of Jesus Christ simply be a myth told by Christian Leaders to get the 'faithful' to contribute their hard-earned money to the established church? If so then this would be an ever greater abomination than the Social Security system forced upon us by FDR.
I have also seen this quoted as "What profit has not that fable of Christ brought us?" in other sources. The concept of Jesus Christ has brought much profit to the Christian Church for a couple of thousand years. To see this all one needs to do is to look at the extravagance of various Church buildings and the expensive clothes and jewelry worn by the leaders of some Religions.
Why would man build a massive expensive structure for a God who is all powerful and was the Creator of the Universe. Such a God already has everything, and if He (or She) wants anything more, He or She, can simply create it at His or Her will whenever desired. God probably has no need for a few hundred thousand large buildings built at great expense. One might think that God would rather have people using their money and abilities to help other people in need instead of spending vast sums of money on a big building.
