Irenaenus 

He was a second century theologian.

Said to have been the father of the Catholic Church's theology.  See "The Hiram Key" page 39.

He viewed Gnosticism as threatening to the authority of the Catholic Church.

If the beliefs of the Catholic Church were so wonderful than one would suspect that all people would want to become a follower of the Catholic Church.  Fear of another Religion seems to be unreasonable unless that religion is simply competing for financial gain like Pepsi and Coke.
