Infallibility of the Pope

The Catholic Church considers the Pope unable to fail and always correct no matter what, at least on Church matters and doctrine.  This is, at least in my opinion, a totally insane idea. No way can any man be infallible.

What happens when the Pope is later proven wrong by the rest of the world?

The Galileo episode must have caused a bit of a problem for the Catholic Church.  If a Pope in infallible then how can one correct a mistake made by an infallible Pope a long time ago and not destroy the concept of the Infallibility of the Pope.  If the Infallibility of the Pope is true then does the Sun still revolve around the Earth and is the Earth still the center of the universe at least for the Church Leaders even when we now all know it is not true?  I shall lose no sleep over this question as I do not believe that any man can be infallible regardless of how many people tell him that it is impossible for him to make a mistake.  The Catholic Church has done a lot of good things regardless of some rather interesting ideas about the quality of their leadership.  It has also done a lot of bad things.  I find some humor in this problem.

However, one should never condemn a religion over the few things that you disagree with.  Their religion might even be better than your religion or at least their religion might be less bad than your religion.  While there are a few things that I do not agree with I still consider to Catholic Church to be one of the better religions, even though it still condemns the great fraternity of Freemasonry.  The Catholic Church has come a long way over time.  It no longer has to Burn People at the Stake or imprison them for disagreeing with the Church so perhaps in another thousand years or so the Catholic Church may quit hating the Freemasons.  Perhaps the Pope would still like to Burn People at the Stake, especially Freemasons, but many of the Catholics, including many Catholic Priests, that I have met have been wonderful people, even if they consider their spiritual leader to be infallible.
