Idol

An Idol seems to be an object worshiped by someone.

Any object that a person feels they must face when praying should be considered an as an Idol.  Some Religions prayed facing the Sun so the Sun could be considered to be an Idol.  Some Religions always pray toward a cross which should also be considered an Idol.  Some Religions pray toward a city which should be considered to be an Idol.  Most Religions pray toward something that is, in reality, an Idol, even if they say it is not an Idol.  Why worship facing the object if it is not an Idol?  Makes no sense to me.
