How old is Freemasonry?

The correct answer is that nobody really knows.

It is known to have existed on 24 June 1717 when the Grand Lodge of England was established.

It may go back a very long time, perhaps as far back as Adam, or perhaps even before.  The Great Architect of the Universe is considered by some to have been a Mason.

Remember that at one time Masonry was considered the same as Geometry.

Since the Supreme Being was so good at constructing the Universe He is sometimes considered by some to have been the first and greatest Freemason.  This would make Freemasonry really old.  Some people who belong to an Expansionist Religion will probably consider this comment to be blasphemous but so what.  Some may even want to kill me for even reprinting someone's belief here. Not sure if being burned at the Stake would be any better or worse than slowly be killed each day by Alzheimer's Disease or by cancer.  At least it would be quicker and probably not cost anywhere near as much.  After today (20100321) when the US H of R passed the health care reform bill I figure that anyone over 50 who is not a government official, or a significant other or child of the same, will just be allowed to die when they get ill (or murdered by euthanasia)  so the government can take and redistribute their assets to those who voted for the Democrats who 'knew' that American 'needed' and 'wanted' this law even when millions of Americans protested the idea. (Older Americans who saved some assets and now get sick are probably just screwed, especially if you ever voted Republican.) I must admit that I do not consider Obama to have been a very good choice for the leader of America.  I hope we survive as a country until the next election, if another election ever is held.  Being rather old I will probably not be all that concerned.  I have always worked to earn my keep and I do not like the idea of the Government stealing my money to give to those who will not work so that they can simply give my money away for votes.
