Homer 

Only a few of Homer's poems survived the destruction of his works by the Greek tyrant Peisistratus in Athens.  The destruction of knowledge has happened over and over again. (See "Rule by Secrecy" page 363)

Knowledge is often destroyed by Religions or Politicians when they see such Knowledge as a potential threat to themselves or to their Religion of Political Party.
