History 

Most students study History, some more than others.

People who write about History are called Historians.

Unfortunately a lot, if not most, of History is most likely untrue. 

History should be studied but not often considered totally true.

Perhaps history should be spelled 'his story' instead of History, since most History is written by the victors of wars and of movements, be they politicians or religious leaders.  History is written to make those in power look good.  Thou shalt never forget that.

It is said that those who do not study History are bound to repeat it.  

Henry Ford once said, "All History is Bunk." and he was probably correct.

From the birth of Jesus Christ until about the time of the founding of the United States of America, most History, along with most science and most other Knowledge, was under the censorship of the Roman Catholic Church.  If the Catholic Church did not want something recorded for History is was not recorded.  The Church often adjusted the attitude of those who did not follow the wishes of the Church Leaders in rather unpleasant ways such as Burning the Heretics at the Stake.  Using a man's book to fuel the fire not only got rid of the offending writings but also got rid of the author.  One must learn to never piss-off a Religion that is all-powerful in a country.  

History is also often corrected, or at least changed to more politically correct, usually to make the the new victors look better, or to discredit someone else. 

The so-called 'Truth' does not seem to be very important in the official versions of History.  Many if not most Historians, see no reason to let a few facts get in the way of promoting their ideas.  They simply change the facts to meet their needs.  Some Historians really do attempt to write good honest History.

History should be studied but remember that just because it is written in a great book, or elsewhere,  does not make it true.  On the other hand, just because one or more persons, groups or Religions say that a certain written History is false does not make it false.  They may say it is false to make their own position more appealing to others.

Science is probably much more reliable than History but even some science has been fabricated by some people with an agenda. 

Religious History is probably the least reliable source of information since no religion would willingly let anything be written that might make that Religion look weak or bad.

In the book "1984" George Orwell wrote the following about History. "Who controls the past controls the future.  Who controls the present controls the past."

It is prudent to not put too much trust in what you read even though it may be the 'official history' of an event.  Those in power publish what they want to publish in order to make themselves look good.

When reading about an event the first information published is probably the most correct since it was published before those in power had a chance to change it for their benefit.

How many people really believe that "The Warren Report" is actually factual or that the Universe was formed about 6000 years ago in 6 days?

History seems to be a collection of the beliefs preferred by the people in power at the time who have a vested interest in what is recorded.
