Galileo

A great scientist who was arrested and imprisoned by the Roman Catholic Church for stating that the Earth revolved around the Sun and not the other way around.  At least the Catholic Church did not burn him at the stake as they did to many others who presented ideas that did not agree with the Roman Catholic Church.  The Roman Catholic Church seems to have forgiven Galileo of his heresy in 1992 when it finally admitted that he may have not been wrong.  This was only a few hundred years too late, at least for poor Galileo.

The fact that the Pope and the Catholic Church were wrong about this pretty well destroys the credibility of the Infallibility of the Pope.
