Freethinking

Freethinking is the ability to think on one's own without needing someone else (Who may be wrong) to tell you what is correct or not.  Remember that just because it is written, or is told to you as the truth by your priest, teacher or government official, does not make it true.  

Freethinking is practiced by Freethinkers, which you should see for a lot more information.

Most Religions and most governments do not like Freethinking people as they seem to think that Freethinking people undermine their authority.  Since both Religions and governments 'know' they are correct they naturally oppose those who do not agree with them 100 percent of the time.  If you practice thinking on your own you risk incurring the hatred of Religion and/or of government.  Religions have in the past attempted to eliminate Freethinking by killing the Freethinkers in some rather brutal way such as Burning at the Stake.  At least now most governments have either simply imprisoned the Freethinkers or at least had them killed in a less violent manner.  Some Religions are still murdering the Freethinkers with Suicide Bombing, or by Stoning them to Death.  Therefore it is probably better to get a government mad at you than to get a Religion mad at you.  Governments are more forgiving than many religions.
