Enemy of Religion

Religions, especially the Revealed Religions, are kept alive and functioning because they promote fear of the Enemy of Religion, whatever that might be.

The Enemy of Religion can be a concept such as Hell or Satan.  Any Enemy of Religion will do as long as the people can be convinced that the Enemy of Religion is really a threat to their so-called Everlasting Life.  People who have been convinced of the Enemy of Religion will give up much of what they could use during this life on Earth so that their Church Leaders will promise them that they have been saved and will go to Heaven as long as they keep giving money to their Church.

In order for a Revealed Religion to continue to exist, to flourish, and to expand, that Religion must have an Enemy of Religion that can threaten, or at least be used by the Church to threaten, its followers.  Without a real or perceived Enemy there would be no reason for the Church to exist.

Fear of the Enemy of Religion helps keep the congregation of a Church together and gives them a reason to donate money to their Church so that their Church can 'fight' the imagined Enemy of Religion.  A Church that can convince their followers of the need to fight a common Enemy will become a wealthy Church since the fearful people will gladly give money to the Church so that they can be 'Saved' and go to Heaven, wherever it may or may not be located, if it even exists.

If any Religion was ever so much better than any other Religion that better Religion would probably become the only Religion on Earth.  This has not happened probably due to the fact that there are a lot of Freethinkers in the world who do not simply accept everything that is told to them the by their Church Leaders.  Thank the Supreme Being for this still being true. 

Question everything and believe nothing until you have proved it to yourself.  Just because it was told to you by a priest or preacher does not make it true.  They are simply men, or women, like you and they have a vested interest in what they preach to you.  Otherwise they might have to go find some other occupation in order to support themselves.
