Dues

Dues are the annual fee paid by members for continued membership in any organization.

Dues are collected each year by all Lodges, just like dues are collected each year by almost all organizations.

Dues are needed to keep, support, and maintain most organizations, including most Lodges.

The Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania also charges Dues to all Masons in Pennsylvania.  The Dues to the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania are collected as part of the regular Dues that are paid to the Subordinate Lodge and are later paid by the Subordinate Lodge to the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania.

The payment of Dues helps the members appreciate the organization.  People appreciate most things that they have to pay for which is one reason why even wealthy organizations that do not need any more money still charge a membership fee each year.

For Masonic Lodges the Dues are to have been paid by Saint Johns Day or at least by 31 December for the ensuing year beginning on Saint John's Day next, but the deadline for payment of Dues may be extended by a vote of the members present at the January Stated Meeting when an extension for the deadline is moved, seconded and passed by the members present at the meeting.  This usually takes place at the January meeting of the Lodge, and perhaps again at the February Stated Meeting.

The motion to extend the time for the payment of Dues is usually made by the Secretary and is usually seconded by the Senior Warden.  The Motion must be voted upon and passed by the Brethren.

Dues are usually sent by the members to the Secretary of the Lodge.  They can be paid with cash at a meeting or by check through the mail.

Wilmington Lodge # 804 charges Dues like most organizations.

Once the Dues have been paid a Dues Card is issued to the Member who has paid his Dues.
