Destruction of Knowledge
Throughout History much, if not most, of the Knowledge ever learned by mankind has been lost. It has been lost to natural disasters, fires, hidden by someone and then forgotten, or destroyed on purpose by man for various reasons, most often religious reasons.
Much Knowledge has probably been lost because the author destroyed it instead of being tortured and Burned at the Stake for his ideas by leaders of Revealed Religions.
Knowledge has also been lost due to the fact that the language it was written in is no longer known and therefore cannot be translated. This may again become a great problem in the future as new computer programs will not always permit the reading of earlier computerized documents.
Also most paper does not survive for long periods of time which also can also result in the Destruction of Knowledge. Engraving on Gold would be a great way to store Knowledge but is is too expensive. Copper sheets also seem to work rather well at least if kept somewhat dry.
The Internet allows the spread of Knowledge, as long as the program it was stored with is still available. This may become a major problem if the information is not also printed out on paper or on something more permanent. Software companies upgrade often and sometimes their new programs will not handle the older documents. They do this in an effort to make one buy their newest computer programs.
Organized Religions, especially the Expansionist Religions, have destroyed much, if not most, of the Knowledge that has ever been learned by the human race. If all Religions had been successful in their desire to destroy the Knowledge of the infidels, heathens and/or Pagans, there would be no ancient Knowledge left. Given the chance the Catholic Church would have destroyed all the information known by non-Catholics, like they did with the Mayan records, and the Muslims would have destroyed all Knowledge accepted by the Catholic Church. No Knowledge would have survived. We should thank the one and only Supreme Being that organized Religions do not always get their way and that the United States of America has no one religious belief running our country.
The Great Architect of the Universe, known to Christians as God and to Moslems as Allah, is probably laughing at the stupidity of his creations who routinely destroy the Knowledge that has been learned. He may get a chuckle out of knowing that the destruction has been done in His name to please Him. (God probably has a very interesting sense of humor.)
It kind of makes one question their faith in Religion, at least in organized Religion.

Most of the poems of Homer were destroyed by the Greek tyrant Peisistratus in Athens.
The entire Egyptian library that was stored in the Temple of Ptah in Memphis, Egypt, was destroyed.
Probably 200,000 volumes of information were destroyed during the destruction of the Library of Pergamus in Asia Minor.
A library said to contain over 500,000 volumes was destroyed by the Romans when the leveled the city of Carthage.
Julius Caesar, in his war with Egypt, destroyed the greatest library of all time, with the destruction of the great Library at Alexandria. The Serapeum and the Bruchion branches of that library are said to have contained over 700,000 volumes. The volumes that survived Julius Caesar were later destroyed by the Christians in 391 AD.
The Romans and the Christians destroyed many libraries in Europe.
The Catholic Inquisition and the sacking of Constantinople destroyed an inestimable number of volumes.
Chinese emperor Tsin Shi Hwang-ti ordered the burning of massive quantities of books in Asia in 213 BC. (See "Rule by Secrecy" page 363)
A Catholic priest had all the records and books of the Mayans that he could locate destroyed because they did not conform to the teachings of the Catholic Church. Typical idea of a Religion, especially of a Revealed Religion or of an Expansionist Religion: If it does not agree with your Religion, destroy it, even if it may be that your Religion is incorrect. Such behavior should be criminal and punishable by a long slow painful death.
Almost all of the writings of the Gnostics were destroyed, or hidden perhaps in the Vatican Secret Archives, by the leaders of the Catholic Church or at their direction. The Dead Sea Scrolls somehow managed to escape this willful destruction by remaining hidden until 1945. Fortunately the Church does not always get away with all of its ideas. It is said that the Truncated Pyramid is the Symbol of Lost Knowledge.
According to "The Hiram Key" on page 47, the Christians looted the Jewish synagogues and burned 24 cartloads of Jewish Scriptures in Paris in 1242 AD. Twenty years later King Jayme I of Aragon ordered the destruction of all Jewish books.
