Definitions of Freemasonry

There have been various definitions. None are perfect.

"Masonry is a peculiar system of morality veiled in allegory and illustrated by symbols." (See "Who's Afraid of Freemasons?" by Piatigorsky page 22) This is probably the best definition of Freemasonry that has ever been given.

"Freemasonry is a conglomeration of Christian, Gnostic, and pagan beliefs and rituals." (Dr. Spence Morgan)(See "Who's Afraid of Freemasons?" by Piatigorsky page 22)

"Freemasonry is a speculative science issuing from that important practical science, Geometry, the laws of which were observed in the creation, and still are manifest in the regulation of the world." (See "Who's Afraid of Freemasons?" by Piatigorsky page 148)

"... a white, male, primarily native, Protestant society" (American author Lynn Dumeril) (See "Who's Afraid of Freemasons?" by Piatigorsky page 164)

"our Institution is too abstract and universal in its Deist creed, to be Christian, and too religious to be cultural"  (R. Babham - a little known Masonic writer) (See "Who's Afraid of Freemasons?" by Piatigorsky page 179)

Freemasonry is a Fraternity.
