Seems to also be spelled Hugh de Payen, Hugh de Payns and perhaps other spellings.

In 1127 he traveled from Syria to Europe seeking funds and support. (See "The Knights Templar and their Myth" page 4)

Shortly after the Council of Troyes Hugh de Payens met with the Scottish King.  He was the Grand Master of the Knights Templar at this time. (See "Rule by Secrecy" page 309)

He was married to Catherine de St. Clair who was a Scottish woman of Norman descent. (See "The Hiram Key" page 32)  They were married in 1101. (See "The Second Messiah" p 74)  Their son was named Theobald. (See "The Second Messiah" p 74)

Hugh de Payen traveled to Jerusalem in about 1104 with Hugh of Champagne. (See "The Second Messiah" p 74)

He again traveled to Jerusalem in 1114 and again in 1118. (See "The Second Messiah" p 74)
