Cult of the Black Virgin

Bernard of Clairvaux was fascinated with the history of Mary Magdalene, thought by many to have been the first true Pope instead of Saint Peter, so he created the Cult of the Black Virgin.  Mary Magdalene was considered to have been a Black Woman and the Bride of Jesus Christ who was comely.
