Cost to be a Mason

The Masons, like most organizations, have an initiation fee and require annual dues.

The initiation fee is paid only one time and it includes the fee for all three Blue Lodge Degrees.  A typical amount is about $200.00 for many Lodges.  The actual cost may vary with different Lodges. A portion of the fees must be sent to the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania for their use.

Dues seem to range from about $40.00 to about $100.00 per year depending on the Lodge.  A Lodge with many members may not need as much money per member as a small Lodge.

A man should not join a Lodge if the cost of joining and maintaining membership will be a hardship to him or to his family.

Another cost, not financial, to Masonic Membership is time.  It does take some time but I for one feel that the benefits outweigh the time expense.  Like most worthwhile endeavors the more time you spend at something the more you get out of it.

The meetings often run about an hour to an hour and a half.  Of course additional time is often spent socializing after the meeting.  The amount of time you spend with Masonry is pretty much up to you.  The more time you spend the greater you reward.
