Columbus Day
This is a holiday, at least in the USA, that celebrates the 'discovery' of the New World by Christopher Columbus, now called North America. Of course we now know that Columbus was not even the first person from Europe to visit the Western Hemisphere.
Most Native Americans do not celebrate Columbus Day since this date, 12 Oct 1492, was the start of their near extermination by the Christian invaders.
The holiday is usually celebrated on the second Monday of October.
