Cohens

This was a group that existed among the Levites from which many of the high priests were chosen. Cohens were forbidden to marry outside of a Cohen family, perhaps to maintain a link to the priesthood instituted by Moses. (See "Templars in America page 11&12)

NOTE: Does this have anything to do with the Masonic term Cowen?  I do not know, do you?
