Cistercian Order

The Cistercian Order is said to have been founded in 1098 by a group of Benedictine Monks from the abbey of Molesme shortly before the capture of Jerusalem and the death of Pope Urban II.

Saint Bernard was a member of the Cistercian Order.

Members of the Cistercian Order were called "White Monks" because of the white habit they wore under their black scapulars.  The Knights Templar also wore a white mantle.
