Christmas
Christmas is a Christian festival that is held on December 25 of each year. It is said to have been the date on which Jesus Christ was born, or at least it is the date that his birth is celebrated, if this birth ever really took place. Sort of like George Washington's birthday being celebrated on a date that is considered more convenient for more people.
Interestingly enough, at the stated time of the birth of Jesus Christ, December 25 may have been the day of the Winter Solstice, a Pagan holiday. The date of the Winter Solstice has perhaps changed due to corrections in the calendar.
Christmas has become a time for excessive gift giving which has led to a lot of deficit spending and therefore debt. Somehow celebrating the supposed Birthday of Jesus Christ has taken a backseat to commercial interests.
It is also not very likely that Jesus Christ was born on December 25, not that that really matters since it should be His birth that is celebrated and not the date.
Perhaps the date was chosen to be at the Winter Solstice to make it easier for people to accept since it was on this date that the Sun was also born or reborn by rising higher in the sky with each passing day. Sun God and Son of God do not sound very different.
