Chastel Pelerin (Athlit)

This castle was built by the Knights Templar in 1217 during the Fifth Crusade to guard the southern approach to Mount Carmel.  It was built on an old Phoenician Fortress.  It was excavated in 1930 by the British. See "The Knights Templar and their Myth" page 21)
