Cerneau, Joseph

Joseph Cerneau was Frenchman who organized a rival body of Freemasonry that perhaps has become known as the Cerneau Rite of which Pennsylvania Masons are forbidden to be a part of.

I do not know much about this Cerneau Rite.

It seems that the Cerneau Rite and the Scottish Rite merged in 1867 so I am not sure what is wrong with it now, if anything. It still seems to be considered 'irregular' or 'illegitimate' by many Masons, but it may not even exist anymore. (See "The Northern Light" May 1998 P15 for more information)
