The Catholic Church is the largest part of Christianity with with about 1/2 of the Christians being Catholic. Since only about 1/6 of the world's population belongs to the Catholic Church the other 83% of the people do not much care what the Catholic Church thinks or says. Perhaps only Islam has more members than the Catholic Church.
The Catholic Church owns many of the most beautiful and elaborate churches in the world. Most are magnificent structures. Most Catholic churches, like most other Christian churches, are aligned such that the priest stands in the East so that the congregation will be facing the rising Sun. I find it interesting that Christian worshipers still face the rising Sun just like the Sun Worshipers who are still considered heathens or pagans by Christians.
The worship services of the Catholic Church are quite ritualistic, interesting and usually rather pleasant to attend, although sometimes they do seem to go on for quite some time. I have attended many religious services in Catholic Churches and have found them enjoyable to attend. Most members of the Catholic faith have treated me wonderfully even though I am not Catholic. Catholic church services are not boring.
The Pope who is elected by Cardinals, rules the Catholic Church which seems to believe the Pope can never fail in any religious matter due to the Infallibility of the Pope.
The Vatican is the home base of the Catholic Church.
The Catholic Church, at least until the 1300s, seems to have considered scientific learning and experimentation to be heretical, which often led to the Scientist being 'investigated' by the Inquisition, which was usually not pleasant for the Scientist. It sometimes led to being Burned at the Stake which was probably only fun for the perverted priest who ordered and/or watched the cruel execution. The Catholic Church of more modern times has evolved and now has some very good scientists and wonderful institutes of learning.
The Inquisition of the Catholic Church helped create Secret Societies. Anyone not totally agreeing with the Catholic Church had to keep the fact a Secret or risk being murdered in an unpleasant manner by the Catholic Church, or by a government under its control.
The Catholic Church in the past considered all people not in total agreement with its teachings to be Heretics or Pagans who either needed to be 'converted' or eliminated by murdering them.
The Catholic Church even forbade the reading of many works since they were considered to be heretical. In earlier times they simply destroyed the evidence by Book Burning and/or got rid of the authors of such writings in rather unpleasant ways. Fortunately they were not totally successful and some ancient writings still exist. One good example is the destruction of most of the Mayan writing by a Catholic Priest, at least as far as I have read. Another is the Destruction of Knowledge caused by the burning of the Library of Alexandria by a Christian mob under the leadership of Bishop Theophilius which was even praised by Saint John Chrysostom around 400 AD. It was later destroyed again by the so-called peace loving Muslims.
I was told just a few years ago by a Catholic Priest that I was going to Hell because I am not a Catholic and only Catholics can go to Heaven. He may have been correct but since he was not the Pope, perhaps he was wrong. If he ever becomes Pope I guess I will go to Hell since he will then be infallible. I am not sure about retroactive Infallibility. Since only about 1 out of 6 people in the world is Catholic then at least 5 billion people will be in Hell. It might be a hell of a party! Hope there is good beer! There is bound to be some Germans and some British in the group and they sure know how to brew a great beer. Of course the Holy Bible seems to tell us that there is room for 144,000 souls in Heaven. Heaven quite likely is full by now, perhaps with a waiting list. Do dead people ever get kicked out of Heaven? Perhaps if they drink too much beer!
The Catholic Church hates the Craft of Freemasonry more than any other group, Religion or organization, and 'forbids' its members in joining any part of Freemasonry under penalty of being in a State of Grave Sin, whatever that means.
The Catholic Church seems to have often gotten involved in politics including the Catholic Center Party that endorsed Adolf Hitler, then voluntarily disbanded. Adolf Hitler was a member of the Catholic Church and associated with Eugenio Pacelli or Pope Pius XII, who became known to many as Hilter's Pope.
The Catholic Church preaches the concept of Transubstantiation.
The Catholic Church considers that it has the right to rule the affairs of the world since it considers its leader, the Pope, to be God's ruler on Earth. This concept is not accepted by most people who are not Catholic so the Pope really has very little, if any, influence on about 83% of the population of the world. Most of the world's people care not even one little bit about what the Pope claims to be true. (See "The Second Messiah" p 126)
The Catholic Church, with its repeated attempts to conquer to Holy Land, caused many European nations to spend so much cash on the worthless Crusades that these countries were reduced to poverty.
The Catholic Church, like the Druids and the Amish, practice something called Excommunication.
