Blazing Star

At least during the 18th century  in England a Blazing Star was considered to be a heavenly body we now call the Comet.  It appeared to be a star that was ablaze leaving a trail of smoke and sparks behind as it traversed the heavens.

It is said that the Blazing Star was  the central symbol of Freemasonry during the 18th century by Desaguliers.  During this time period science was a fashionable subject and was often discussed at meetings of many social clubs and fraternities, including Freemasonry.
