Benedictine Order

The Benedictine Order was established in the 6th century AD and originally wore a long full gown and hood of pure white, just like the early Essenes and Jerusalem Church leaders wore.  They now wear  a black habit and have so done for several centuries.

Odo of Lagery, the birth name of Pope Urban II, joined the Benedictine Order and later became prior of the Benedictine Monastery of Cluny in 1073.
