Aurelius Ambrosianus

Aurelius Ambrosianus was mentioned by Gildas who wrote about an unsuccessful battle in the West of Britain against the Anglo Saxons.

Some 400 years later another monk, Nennius of Bangor, wrote a history of Britain in which he called the warlord Arthur, perhaps the King Arthur of the legend.
