America before 1492

The 'official' version of the History of America is that before 1492 no Europeans had ever been to America.  Christopher Columbus is said to have discovered America in 1492.  Everyone seems to forget that the Vikings are known to have been here about 500 years earlier.

Obviously the natives of America at that time were here and became incorrectly known as Indians.

For some reason is is not politically correct to even consider the possibility that someone other than the so-called Indians may have been here before 1492.  There must be money or power, or the possibility of money or power, involved for those who insist that no Europeans, or others, visited America before Christopher Columbus. Of course we seem to know that Christopher Columbus never even saw the continent of North America, just a few islands.
