John Quincy Adams
Was a leader of the Anti-Masonic Party in America. (See "Who's Afraid of Freemasons?" by Piatigorsky page 166)
He was POTUS from 1825 until 1829.
It is said the he declared that "Masonry ought to be forever abolished. It is wrong - essentially wrong - a seed of evil, which can never produce any good." "The existence of such an order," he said, "Is a foul blot upon the morals of a community. The code of Moloch homicide, embraced by the laws of masonry, will pass to its appropriate region in Pandemonium, and one of the sources of error and guilt, prevailing in our land, will be exhausted and forever drained." (See "The Story of Freemasonry" by Sibley, page 47)
I have no idea why he was so upset about Freemasonry. Perhaps he applied for membership and was rejected.
He wrote a lot of letters against Freemasonry. There exists a book with many of his letters and ravings against the Fraternity. This book is old and a digital copy can be found as it is available from Google for free as a PDF file. I have it and have read most of it. Look it up if interested.
