Absinthe

A green colored liqueur flavored with wormwood and other flavors.

As far as I know it is outlawed in most countries of the world.

Something to do with the wormwood, I think.  it seems to do something to the brain, body, or perhaps both.

I actually got to taste it back in about 1977 out of a bottle of the stuff that had been made around 1900 AD.  An old girlfriend's father gave me about half a shot of the stuff to try.  I do not remember if it tasted all that good.  Beer tastes a lot better, as far as I am concerned.  I have never wanted to buy a bottle of the stuff even though it seems to be contraband. Sometimes even government officials have a good idea, not very often, but once in a while.
