Isoroku Yamamoto

He was the Admiral who planned the sneak attack on Pearl Harbor that was executed on the morning of 07 December 1941.  He had planned the attack in January of 1941. It seems to be known that the Japanese started asking all of the graduates of their Naval Academy to plan an attack on Pearl Harbor starting back in 1931. (See "Pearl Harbor" by Morgenstern p 17)
