Satan as a Serpent

Serpent is usually just another term used for Snake

The Hebrew word Nachash is said to mean Snake, or perhaps Serpent.

According to Genesis 3:14 in the Holy Bible, God is said to have cursed the Serpent. "And the LORD God said unto the Serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all Cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:"

Apparently there were Cattle on Earth when Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden.

Why would God curse Cattle, or any other animals that God created?

Also Snakes and/or Serpents do not eat dust, which probably has no nutritional value, but instead eat rodents like mice, rats, or perhaps even small people if the snake is large enough.  This is another case where the Holy Bible, the supposed word of God, is simply not true, since snakes do not eat dust!  Also most snakes are beneficial to mankind.  Very few can cause harm to human beings.

The Serpent is said to have been cursed for tempting Eve to eat a forbidden apple by trickery.  This so-called criminal behavior or Eve seems to be now called Original Sin, at least by the Roman Catholic Church

It the Biblical Serpent the same as Satan?

It seems rather odd that if Satan was a Snake, or Serpent, that God would punish the Snake or Serpent by making it crawl on the ground in the dust as all Snakes probably have always done!  Unless at one time Snakes, or Serpents, had arms and/or legs to move around with in the Garden of Eden.  Sounds like one of the Myths of Mythology or Science Fiction!

If Satan is a Snake crawling on his belly he would have a real hard time tempting anyone in the upper latitudes around the poles. Snakes and/or Serpents do not live in higher latitudes or even in higher elevation like high mountains.

Some think that Satan is a 'spiritual' being.  If Satan is a 'spiritual' being then Satan is probably not confined to being a Serpent crawling around the Planet Earth on his belly.

In Job 1:7 God is said to have talked with Satan. "And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the Earth, and from walking up and down in it".  I wonder what language they used to communicate with each other.

This event almost had to have taken place after the Creation.  This seems odd if Satan has already been turned into a Serpent (back in the Garden of Eden) that crawls upon its belly in the dust of the Earth that Satan is walking up and down in the Earth!  Walking is usually done with limbs called legs and is not done upon one's belly!  Or is this just another one of the many thousands of mistakes or mistranslations in the Holy Bible where 'walking' means 'slithering' or something else.

Even a stupid drunken priest doing translations should be easily able to distinguish between walking and slithering, unless he had consumed a very huge quantity of the fruit of the vine, commonly called Wine

Did God's curse on Satan wear off over time?

Did God change His mind and give Satan another chance to be good like the liberals of today do with criminals?

Why can Satan now walk?

If Satan is a 'spiritual' being then Satan should not need to walk or crawl!

This seems to indicate that the Serpent in Genesis 3:14 is not the same as Satan.

Could it be that ancient man simply feared Snakes or Serpents more then than we do now and thus thought of them as being evil since a few of them can kill a person with a single bite.  They did not seem to know much nearly as much about treating Snakebites then as we do in modern times.  They may have really feared Snakes or Serpents and therefore simply called those creatures by some term meaning evil.

Very few people now die from Snakebites due to the wonders of modern medicine which have been developed not by any Religion, but by Scientists.  At least in the past when the Catholic Church ruled Countries the Church leaders would probably have burned at the stake any Scientist who studied snakebite cures, especially if he was successful in treating someone.  That Scientist would most likely have been Burned at the Stake as a Witch or Sorcerer.

Of course we now know that most Snakes, or Serpents, are beneficial and not harmful or bad at all.

Could this Biblical passage simply be a Mythological story based upon Ignorance, fear, and superstition?

The Serpent may also have been used to represent the Constellation Draco (Serpent or Dragon) which rotates around Polaris and is always looking down upon the northern hemisphere.  Thus we can be thought of as always being under the influence of the Serpent, or Satan, due to the location of the various stars in the Heavens.
