He was chancellor of Glasgow Cathedral

He was elected as Bishop of Saint Andrews near the end of 1297. He headed toward Rome to have his election confirmed by the Pope, Pope Boniface VIII.  He returned in 1299 and was named as the third Guardian of Scotland. (See "The Temple and the Lodge" page 26-27)
