Anti-Masonry Main Page  (Outline Page)

There is so much opposition to Freemasonry that it is probably impossible to list it all.  This section will include as much information as I have time to include.  Follow the hyperlinks for additional information.

Probably the biggest Anti-Masonic group is the Catholic Church.  They have spoken out against Freemasonry for a very long time even though at least one of their leaders, Pope Pius IX, was a Freemason before he became Pope.  He was expelled from the Freemasons for his bad treatment of fellow Freemasons.  Perhaps the Catholic Church is still bitter that a Pope was kicked out of Freemasonry for not being a good enough human being to remain a Freemason.  Since about 83% of the population of the Earth is not part of the Catholic Church their hatred of Freemasonry is not really worth getting very excited about, so we as Freemasons tend to ignore it.  It is their loss, not ours.  Only about one out of every six people on the Earth really cares what the Pope has to say about anything. The Pope is not very important in the great scheme of life on Earth, except for Catholics.  Perhaps in a few hundred years, or perhaps in a few hundred thousand years, the Catholic Church will not hate Freemasonry as it does at this time.  We as Freemasons have no real knowledge of why the Catholic Church hates us, nor do we much care.  Their hatred of Freemasonry is not important to Freemasons in any way, shape or form.  Most of the hatred seems to come from the Pope, and perhaps from other high-ranking political leaders of the Church who lives in the Vatican, and not from the local Priests or Parishes.

If you happen to be a member of the Catholic Church and wish to join the Freemasons you will probably be accepted by the Freemasons as we do not care what religion you belong to as long as you believe in a Supreme Being, however your Priest may consider you to be a heathen, blasphemer, or a Pagan, and may forbid you from taking Communion in your church.  As near as I can figure out not being able to accept Communion seems to be the only penalty imposed upon a Catholic who joins the Freemasons.  Govern yourselves accordingly.

The Freemasons, unlike most Religions, do not go out and kill those who use a different name for the Great Architect of the Universe.  The Freemasons seem to have a more 'Christian' attitude toward others than most people who are members of most of the major organized Religions, including Christianity.
